IHCANTABRIA HOSTED THIS PAST FRIDAY 29th: "CABARET AND THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER REDUCTION OF UNISDR"

Cabaret.002

The Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the University of Cantabria (IHCantabria), in cooperation with the Global Disaster Resilience Centre of the University of Huddersfield (GDRC) are organizing a preparatory session for the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) in the frame of the 2nd Steering Committee Meeting of CABARET project (Capacity Building in Asia for Resilience EducaTion), hosted at IHCantabria Headquarters from 27th to 29th September 2017.

IDDR, organised by UNISDR, is held every 13 October, and celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters. The 2017 edition continues under the "Sendai Seven" campaign, centred on the seven targets of the Sendai Framework. This year's focus is Target B: Reducing the number of affected people by disasters by 2030.

In this sense, CABARET project objective is to increase disaster resilience among coastal communities by improving multi-hazard early warning (MHEW). IDDR is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the project and to share efforts and outcomes currently being developed in Asian region, for increasing coastal resilience and achieve this year’s target.
