MANOLO – Modelo Avanzado NO Lineal de Oleaje

MANOLO solves the dispersive and non-linear waves which propagate, transform and oscillate in time, over real bathymetries and within harbour basins, using an adaptative finite element mesh. This model is able to obtain two-dimensional series (2DH) of free surfaces, velocities, and pressures, considering the refraction, diffraction, reflection, and radiation, as well as the effects of energy dissipation due to wave breaking, bottom friction, and partial/total absorption processes.

Applications

The numerical model MANOLO has been successfully applied in different coastal/harbour engineering projects, such as:

  • Harbour oscillation projects: harbour pre-design and design.
  • Harbour resonance studies, considering the non linear transfer of energy between frequencies and the effects of geometric coupling between basins.
  • Harbour operation and management studies.
  • Design of temporary harbour protection structures for the construction phase.
  • Cylinder, dock and vertical wall wave-structure interaction.
  • Assistance in the design of physical models on a laboratory scale (numerical wave tank).
  • Numerical mirror of laboratory 2DH modelling.
  • Pre-design for wave measuring field campaigns.
  • Studies related to long waves (contour waves, solitary waves, tsunamis, wave groups, etc.).
