Javier Lopez Lara, associate professor in University of Cantabria and Head of Hydrodynamics and Coastal Infrastructures Group at IHCantabria, has been named a 2017 Outstanding Reviewer award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Javier was selected by the editor of the Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Engineering and recognized for his outstanding work as a reviewer for the journal. IHCantabria will cover the need to develop tailor-made climate services involving affected sectors to incorporate extreme wind and wave events into their information needs. The strong winds and waves caused by extra-tropical cyclones produce substantial socio-economic impacts in sectors of society strongly conditioned by the climate, such as forestry, insurance and offshore energy. Planning and mitigating these impacts requires in-depth knowledge of the severity, frequency and location of these storms and the associated extreme wind and wave generation mechanism. It is also essential to understand…
The Environmental Hydraulics Institute of the Cantabria (IHCantabria), in collaboration with Iberdrola Renovables and ScottishPower, is carrying out a reduced scale physical experiments campaign in order to evaluate the performance of different scour protection solutions to prevent the scour around the Jacket Legs at the new Iberdrola offshore wind farm of East Anglia ONE.   In these physical tests the metocean characteristics of the studied location are simulated and the real Jackets’ orientation and the seabed characteristics are reproduced. The scale selected is 1:30. The…
