Melisa Menéndez


    Melisa Menéndez is a Research Scientist of the group Marine Climate and Climate Change of IH Cantabria.

    She is a Marine Scientist graduated at the University of Cadiz (1996-2001), Spain. Most of her post-graduate training has taken place at the University of Cantabria, within the department of Science and Technology of Water and Environment. She has a Masters in 'Science and Technology for Managing the Coast' (2003) and her doctoral thesis was titled "Methodology for statistical analysis of extreme values nonstationary geophysical variables "(2008), directed by Fernando J. Méndez and Iñigo J. Losada

    Dr. Menendez has carried out research studies in: Scripps 'Institution of Oceanography' and 'Hydrologic Research Center' (California, USA) in collaboration with Peter Bromirski and Nicolas Graham, and the 'National Oceanography Centre' (Liverpool, UK) in collaboration with Philip Woodworth.

    Melisa Menéndez has been awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate from the University of Cantabria in the area of Technical Education (2010) and has participated as an investigator in several national  (CICYT, Consolider-Ingenio, ..) and international projects(FP7 program, Interreg, .).

    El ámbito de investigación general de Melisa se basa en la investigación y desarrollo de técnicas matemático-estadísticas para analizar y entender las variaciones climáticas y el estudio de la influencia del calentamiento global en el medio marino, especialmente sobre el ámbito costero. Algunas líneas específicas son:
    • Estudio de la variabilidad climática de variables geofísicas.
    • Determinación del impacto del cambio climático en la costa y sus infraestructuras, a partir de cambios en el nivel del mar, el oleaje y precipitaciones.
    • Metodologías para el análisis de fenómenos climatológicos extremos.
    • Downscaling dinámico (modelado numérico) de oleaje, generación de bases de datos de reanálisis y de escenarios de cambio climático.
    • Caracterización estadística del clima marítimo.
    • Calibración espacio-temporal de modelos de reanálisis.
    • Downscaling estadístico para caracterizaciones locales del clima.
    • Proyecciones regionales y costeras del clima marítimo.
    • Estimación el potencial energético de energías renovables marinas.
