Marine resources

The sustainable exploitation of living natural resources is one of the priorities in the strategies of nature conservation. To develop appropriate management plans that provide optimal performance of mining activities, while ensuring continuity of populations and environmental functionality, you must have appropriate scientific expertise to support these management plans.

IH Cantabria has extensive experience in the assessment of coastal and estuarine living resources. To do this, it has specialized in the study of both intertidal and subtidal populations. Since its inception, IH Cantabria has conducted numerous studies aimed at providing competent government information for the sustainable management of shellfish resources such as barnacles, sea urchins, clams and seaweed. Among the projects carried out within this line of work, we can find evaluation studies "stocks", species distribution according to environmental parameters, potential habitat, growth, intra-and interspecific competition, population recovery, larval dispersal models, etc.
