Metocean Data

IH Cantabria has several metocean information systems. To design these systems, the following tasks must be carried out: database collection and generation, quality control and processing of the data, and finally the management and presentation of information.

The Meteocean information provided by IH Cantabria can be classified into two groups: temporal information on a particular location of several variables (time series), which allows  characterizing the climatic conditions for different time scales (from periods of less than one day to century long time periods) and for different types of analysis: historical, current, short-term prediction or climate projections throughout the 21st century.

TASKS: surfspots is a web based product developed to show, in real time, those parts of the coast that have good conditions for water sports such as surfing, kitesurfing or Stand Up Padlle ( SUP).

 - Global Ocean Waves (GOW) and Downscaling Ocean Waces (DOW)image0 datomet1

TASKS: GOW and DOW are databases that provide a reconstruction of various wave parameters for the last decades. GOW covers all the world's oceans and reports on the surf to coastal waters. DOW provides information only on the coast, where the waves are affected by the background bathymetry and local processes.

TASKS: SeaWind is an atmospheric reanalysis mainly providing wind information for recent decades.

- Global Ocean Tide (GOT) and Global Ocean Surge (GOS)image022

TASKS: GOT is an application that provides the astronomical tide anywhere in the world and GOS is a reanalysis database that provides the meteorological tide time scale during the last decades.
