The advances which have been carried out in the last decade regarding computational methods, along
with the development of faster computer systems has brought upon the use of numerical models to study
marine dynamic related processes.
At IH Cantabria, we have focused much of our effort in the development of our own numerical models
which allow us to study different types of processes, from the larger space-time scales such as
those related to oceanic currents, to the smallest ones, for example turbulent processes associated
with wave breaking on beaches or structures.
The models developed by IH Cantabria are continuously being validated using field and laboratory
testing, as well as analytical solutions, which allow us to ensure the reliability of the obtained
results. On the other hand, these models have been conceived and developed for their direct
application to real life study cases, making their computational load and use adequate.
Some of the numerical models developed by IH Cantabria for coastal and harbour engineering can
be found below.
